Lyrics

Lyrics below are from their self-titled album

Sleight of Hand:

All of my friends
Not the ones I’ve got
Everyone has run out hot and cold and hot
Monkey’s got fire
Feathers on the top
Burning giant mandolin
Over the pigeon drop

Oldest game around
Newest trick in town
Sleight of hand
Oldest game around
Newest trick in town
Sleight of hand

The air is perfumed
Burning much too slow
Filling up the room
Stumbling like a rose
Standing on the street
Watching the time roll past
You can smell the love
And it’s disappearing fast

Oldest game around
Newest trick in town
Sleight of hand
Oldest trick in town
Newest game around
Sleight of hand

It’s a symphony of growls
A private collection of invisible howls
The oldest game around
A little sticky and totally sound
The air is perfumed
Burning much too slow
Filling up the room
Stumbling like a rose

Oldest game around
Newest trick in town
Sleight of hand

Alaska:

They say it’s ornamental
But it’s pretty real to me
It’s just experimental
But I think I disagree
It might be accidental
Slippery as the wind
And it was once a circle
Now it’s getting thin

(Chorus)
Used to be cheap love song
Satellite as it falls in alaska
Silver moon it’s close at hand
Satellite as it falls in alaska
Message is message was
Shadows in the trees
Growing much faster
Silver moon it’s close at hand
Satellite as it falls in alaska

It’s artificial water
Splashin’ all around
And though you might be sinking
You can never drown

(Chorus)

Inquiring Minds:

They put flowers on your grave Jon Benet
They put flowers on your grave Jon Benet
The police they ask them
The papers they ask them
The parents they ask them
But you can never ask them

They put flowers on your grave Jon Benet
They put flowers on your grave Jon Benet
The papers exhume you
From your little grave they pull you
All they want to do
Is to poke around your mummy
They put flowers on your grave Jon Benet
They put flowers on your grave Jon Benet

Untried:

I am a chemical reaction
To a practical solution
And I am trapped out in the middle
Of a lake of my pollution

Sometimes it seems nothing will do
Directionless, untried and true
Some things appear out of the blue
Directionless, so what, untried and true

This is a registered denial
Of a toxic situation
But I have really grown to cherish
All of my vile habituations

Sometimes it seems nothing will do
Directionless, so what, untried and true
Some things appear out of the blue
Directionless, untried and true

This is a permanent example
Of a passing fascination
And I am trying hard to swallow
All of the beautiful information

Sometimes it seems nothing will do
Directionless, so what, untried and true
Some things appear out of the blue
Directionless, untried and true

Blind Me:

In the stars in your eyes I see
A little chaos and harmony
And that's when I lose my mind
Love is blind to even those who see
Blind me, blind me
Blind me

There's a crack in the smoky air
And the sound from the outside stair
Electricity fills my mind
Lost in time, that's all I seem to need
Blind me, blind me
Blind me

In the back of my head I hear
A little light burning loud and clear
And that's when I lose my mind
Love is blind is all I need to hear
Blind me, blind me
Blind me

Dottie Dawn & Julie Jewel:

Dottie Dawn and Julie Jewel
Gonna ride a shooting star up to the moon
Julie waves to all the fans
In the back of a royal brougham pontiac
She said never have I felt like this before
When I heard the news I nearly hit the floor
Here I am in such good company
Elbow broomstick jab a chance to flee

Julie passed out on the train
Got dreams of angels dancing in her brain
Dottie Dawn and Julie Jewel
Gonna ride a shooting star up to the moon
She said never have I felt like this before
When I heard the news I nearly hit the floor
Here I am in such good company
Elbow broomstick jab a chance to flee

Solid:

Is what I am is a plastic man
Gazing out across a plastic land
And everyone is just a thing
Sit and listen to bells of plastic ring
And I'm a genius doing something wrong
Using real words in made up songs
I could cut myself and nothing would come out
‘Cause the blood is frozen solid in my veins
I should know by now that I could cut myself
‘Cause I'm solid and it's always been that way

Here's the song that I sing
An imitation of the real thing
Here's the time, it doesn't pass
Here's the sand frozen in the hourglass
Touch my skin and know that I can feel
But I can't tell you if feeling's real
I could cut myself and nothing would come out
‘Cause the blood is frozen solid in my veins
I should know by now that I could cut myself
‘Cause i'm solid and it's always been that way

Pyramid:

For a million masses
I will ruin all the water
I eliminate your senses also you
Should give me evermore
And I will seal all up the doors
And lock away that nature thing we’ll never do
I’m the one you love the most
It keeps you safe and warm at night
I’m the one that always come unglued
And overflows

I love you and you love me
And we love everything we see
And nothing could be more than me or you
Here amidst the ruins
In the shadows of the pyramids
Pictures of the dirty things we do
I’m the one I love the most
It keeps you safe and warm at night
I’m the one that always come unglued
And overflows

Everywhere the arms around
The pictures of the crowd surround
The wave is disappearing out of view
The rivers fill the fields inside the homes of mountains, fields and mines
And doors and minds are locked away on you

I’m the one you love the most
It keeps you safe and warm at night
I’m the one that always come unglued
And overflows

Telescope:

Now I have climbed your walls
And walked along your salty pond
The love we trained went wild
Painted windows on the walls
Of a cavernous heart

Here's my telescope, here's my potato gun
Here's my dumb attempt to shoot into the sun
And every morning with the radio on
Not gonna sit around here and cry ‘til you're gone

Now tears can't stop the fire
They're really more like candledrops
The wax is rolling down
In flames that char the paper walls
Of a cavernous heart

Here's my telescope, and here's my potato gun
And here's my dumb attempt to shoot into the sun
And every morning with the radio on
Not gonna sit around here and cry ‘til you're gone

Now I am stranded here
Alone with you and everyone
The love we trained went wild
Painted windows on the walls
Of a cavernous heart

Here's my telescope, and here's my potato gun
And here's my dumb attempt to shoot into the sun
And every morning with the radio on
Not gonna sit around here and cry ‘til you're gone

Slow Race:

Inside a jar of prehistoric air
Neon fossil penguins grow on trees
The child professor doesn't care
He has a friendly new disease
It causes me to swear
I never said I care, I never said

It takes a paucity of scale
To simulate what's in the jar
A friendly fire of forest whales
On rubber hearts and vacuum stars
It causes me to swear
I never said I care, I never said

We could have ourselves a slow race
And the object is to lose
The awards flow by like icebergs
Deep and giant blue

There are no fish left in the streams
They all have taken to the air
And with their rattles, guns, and beads
New age pirates sit and stare
It causes me to swear
I never said I care, I never said
We could have ourselves a slow race
And the object is to lose
The awards flow by like icebergs
Deep and giant blue

There are no fish left in the streams
They all have taken to the air
And with their rattles, guns, and beads
New age pirates sit and stare
It causes me to swear
I never said I cared, I never said
We could have ourselves a slow race
And the object is to lose
The awards flow by like icebergs
Deep and giant blue
There's a boring intermission
In the middle of the play
The awards flow by like icebergs
Made of ancient clay

What I Said:

It isn’t what I said
Lying now instead
Something in my head
The obvious is dead
That’s not what I did
The obvious was hid
Lay down on the floor
Cleanup’s not my chore
Silence is better than nothing
Than nothing
Silence is better than nothing

Isn’t what I said
World is sick in bed
Roses painted red
Pounding in my head
Silence is better than nothing
Than nothing
Silence is better than nothing

Lying now instead
Dying in my head
Silence is better than nothing
Than nothing
Silence is better than nothing

Pasted:

Old St. Paul he told them all
Like it was him they hung out to dry
From stolen dreams are made the means
To lead the souls who must abide
Then you’ll never have to work again
You glide along the backs of men
Who add up the witness list of souls
That want to feel but need to be told
At the bar the lone star scar
The seraph like’d to hear a song
The crowd was moved, I disapprove
No writer tell me he’s wrong
You’re told to leave and not come back again
Fall in line not question when
To peel off the shrink wrap pride inside
Let’s cheer and sing to the big lie

Those who do believe
Do they know they are deceived
Amidst the luxury
A manufactured deity
That you are pause to see
No substitutions if you please
Like starving is disease
They hunger for celebrity

Krist working on solo album?
According to a story in the Tacoma News Tribune, Krist Novoselic might be working on a solo album. In an interview with the paper, Novoselic said: " 'I'm still making music. I have my studio, and I'm recording things and I have as much fun as possible. But I have that luxury, and I can work on political things. So I can basically just go where my passion takes me.' Nirvana Box Set Released!
The Nirvana box set has finally been released!. Please click HERE for more information.

Krist's book is released on September 14!
Krist also embarked on a long book-signing tour, be sure to check out the dates HERE

Krist is in the process of writing a book!
The book will be one part memoir, one part political platform, the bass player of Nirvana -- the most heralded and influential rock band of the past fifteen years -- tells the story of his own musical and political coming-of-age. From his relationship to Kurt Cobain to his evolution as a political activist, Novoselic's passion, intelligence, and integrity come shining through in this moving and inspirational book. With the exception of Kurt Cobain's posthumously released journals, this is the first book by a founding member of the legendary Nirvana.

Krist is getting married!
Krist Novoselic has applied for a marriage license through the Pierce County Auditor's office on Feb. 23. The female applicant is listed as 41-year-old artist Darbury Ayn Stenderu. The couple have been dating for over three years now.

Krist will be appearing on an American Music Magazine music compilation. It is slated to be released March 8th. The compilation is called No Depression: What it Sounds Like ( Vol. 1 ).  The disc opens with the late Johnny Cash's rendition of Willie Nelson's "The Time of the Preacher", featuring Krist on bass guitar. Soundgarden's Kim Thayill and Alice in Chains' Sean Kinney complete the star line-up

Krist Novoselic was present in Vancouver for two benefit rock concerts hosted by Music for America (an organization aiming to get more young people to vote). "Besides music, the concerts featured appearances by former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, and state attorney general and gubernatorial candidate Christine Gregoire.

The latest on Krist Novoselic's political activities: "Grunge-rock pioneer Krist Novoselic has decided against running for lieutenant governor, saying he wants to stay involved in progressive politics but 'the whole thing about running a campaign and being a public servant isn't the way to do it.' Instead, one of the founding members of Nirvana will concentrate on his work with Music for America, a group working to boost voter participation among young people. He also will keep up his efforts for election reform." Story courtesy of The Seattle Times. Read the complete article here.

The Washington newspaper Chinook Observer recently did a lengthy interview with Krist Novoselic, talking about music, politics and everything in between.

"The former bassist from Nirvana, Krist Novoselic, will be present at a free concert in Longview next Friday that aims to get young people registered to vote. 'I think Democracy is everybody's business,' said Novoselic, who grew up near Aberdeen and lives on the Southwest Washington coast. 'It's such an exciting year, and there's so much going on in our nation, in our world, and in our state.' The event, which will be held at the former Boardroom skate park on Commerce Avenue is part of 'Music for America.' It's a series of shows and voter registration drives that will be held across the country this spring and summer. The goal is to get 1 million people between the ages of 18 and 35 registered to vote by Oct. 14. U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, D-Vancouver, also is expected to attend the Longview event, which will be held the day before the Washington caucus. Novoselic, 38, said he started getting involved with voter registration drives 10 years ago. He came to Longview for a similar concert in 1998. He said he was disappointed in low voter turnout in the 2003 elections. Although registered voters in Washington typically have a higher participation rate than the national average, fewer than half of them voted less fall." Story courtesy of The Daily News. The event takes place at 8.30 PM this Friday on 1433 Commerce Ave. in Longview, WA. And, please, for the love of God - VOTE if you can! I don't live in the US but I think it's a disgrace to the democratic system that the voter turnout was so low in the last US Presidential elections. It's bad enough that Bush stole the election. VOTE!
